In buildings you make items, research technology, cast spells, undertake quests and build armies. You need a Library. A library allows you to research technology which unlocks new buildings, units and actions. I attempted to play this game once before and I will admit it is a incredibly coded game. Very nice pictures, helpful players appear to be always online, etc. But it is a real time played game - not for everyone. If I were on the computer all day long then sure this would be great. But to wait and wait for one deed to be finished (in real time) until you can do another deed greatly drags my patience. I cannot understand why a game would expect you to stay in it for hours at a time - just waiting around.
I have been playing Illyriad for near four months now, and I have to agree with all that has been said here. It really is one of the best games I have ever played. Friendly and civil don't even really hint at the community of Illy, they are helpful, considerate, kind, polite, fun, they really are the best.
As for the game itself, it is easy enough for anyone to play and learn in its complexities as they go along, but complex enough from the beginning to keep even the most interested strategist involved.
I recommend Illyriad wholeheartedly, for one of the best all around games available by browser. Please join us all and check it out!
Illyriad is an extremely deep MMO grand strategy game wherein you build cities and are able to choose a great variety of career paths. It is a browser/app game that can be played on a variety of platforms. The game takes place on a huge world spanning two continents, and a variety of terrain types and biomes, each offering different benefits and challenges. It is extremely sandboxy and you can spend your time crafting, hunting NPC monsters, engaging in trade, pvp, thieving, collecting intel and much more. There is a robust alliance system, and there are a variety of building types and research paths depending on your particular interest. The devs are actively involved and new content is planned. But perhaps the best thing about Illyriad is the community. The "Illy" community is perhaps the nicest, most civil group I have ever seen in any game. If you like sandbox, strategy or building games or just want to make new friends in a great community environment, I strongly urge you to try Illyriad. You will not regret it.
